I am Ishaan Surve, the founder of BIOSMArtS, Inc., a Non-profit organization.
I am a 5th Grader. I am a 10 year old, who is fascinated and curious about the world around me. I love Science, Math, Arts and Sports. But that alone doesn't make me happy.I want to do something worthwhile in my community.
In the summer of 2017, we were vacationing in India and had the opportunity to visit a school that was helping kids from really poor families with their education. I was so moved by what I saw there. I immediately knew that I had to do something to help these kids. I didn’t know how but I knew that I had to, and that's where the idea of BIOSMArtS was born.
Can a single thought pave the way for change in a person’s life? The idea of BIOSMArtS is bound to change mine.
I decided that I would try and raise funds to sponsor children’s education in these poor schools in India. I took this thought to my parents and my aunt, and they encouraged and supported me to pursue my passion to help these kids. I was hooked to the idea of starting a program that would combine the concept of helping a kid with his education and also other school related education enrichment programs. I didn't just want to sponsor their school supplies and be done with it. I wanted to make an impact in their lives, so I made an entire curriculum of educational enrichment program involving Science, Math and Arts integration called BIOSMArtS (Brilliant Integration of Science, Math, Art and Service). This program would have topics that integrated all these subjects, quizzes, fun facts and other science experiments and models. There would also be a program called ESTEAM that would be the student tutoring and mentoring program.
I know that these programs are going to change my life. I am never going to be the same again, because seeing someone’s life transform is going to transform mine as well. I hope that I will become a better person as the years roll by.
I had grown up listening to the story of my great-grandfather Jesse, who was orphaned at the age of 3 and how his entire village had raised money to send him to school initially and then to college. He never forgot what the people from his village had done for him and he honored that sentiment by supporting and educating several kids in need later in his life. I think that rainy day, it was great-grandpa Jesse who came to show me that I was indeed blessed, for I had it all and that I needed to think beyond my own self and find a way to give back to others.
Grandpa Jesse is my legacy and I hope that someday he would be proud me.
This is a Kid to Kid initiative and I hope and wish that I can make a difference. Small steps towards a bigger goal :)

Bullying has many faces and many of them are hiding among us, going about doing what they do silently and systematically. Many times we see our friends continue to tease others and we laugh along, not realizing that we are hurting the other person. What does it take to have the courage to ask your friend to STOP, you lose a friend, you become the new target and many times you end up being alone.
